Photo of the Day 3

View of 11 Mile Drive from Eglinton, Bathurst

Day three and the Bathurst Bike Programmers’ Gang (a.k.a. the Bathurst Bling Police) headed out for our longest trip yet around the town! Over two hours and twenty kilometres, Cam, Spud, Ryan and I made a hard slog of things, climbing the long, gradual west slope of Mount Panorama before heading downhill through Windradyne and Abercrombie and onto the main road to Eglinton. Once in the little town of Eglinton, we fortified our spirits with a brief respite, and pushed on to 11 Mile Drive, which hooks around north of Bathurst into Kelso.

Although conditions were good for the first part of the trip, as soon as we hit 11 Mile Drive, the wind attacked! We made the series of long hills and then short steep hills against driving wind. However, the view over the fields and Bathurst itself weren’t spoiled in the least. At 23 oC and relatively low humidity, conditions were perfect for riding. We stopped quite a few times on 11 Mile, as an hour and a half into the trip our flesh was waning as much as the spirits remained strong. 😀 Nevertheless, we made Kelso in good health, and took the very straight, very busy road back into Bathurst in time for dinner.

I made spaghetti, let’s hope the protein and carbs restore us! Thanks to the boys for a wonderful afternoon. There’s nothing better than enjoying beautiful scenery in the company of great friends… unless you count relaxing at the end of a long ride. That’s pretty sweet itself.
