Monday night, Darling Harbour. We returned for Ryan’s birthday dinner, equipped with his nanna, mum and sister. Our destination: the Meat and Wine Company. Our dinner:
But we’ve all seen meat on sticks (at least, you have… now), and as it grew ever darker outside and the lights flickered across the water, Ryan and I could not long be contained in the confines of the restaurant. We headed out towards the water;
and then through the night time mobs to the water park, featured in Day 66. In the night the park was dreamy, seeming almost unreal, the light soft and the gentle noise of the water, everything so different than it had been in the day. It was also full of adults enjoying the equipment;
living his dream of operating an excavator in a sandpit. XD The water features were lit up and filtered lights cast strange, entrancing shadows on the water course, enchanting anyone who wandered by.
Even the waterwheel was different and pleasantly strange;

But perhaps there is always something a little sinister about the night…
After a while, a gentle rain set in, and with the rest of the crowd we headed back towards the harbour for shelter. The water park, so much fun during the day, so enchanting at night. And I think that is where the heart of the outdoors lies. In being part of your environment, in opening your eyes, in playing, in enjoying, in living, in being a part of the world around you.
It can be done, even in a city.
