Picture of the Day 39: flip it!
Isn’t she gorgeous? This is my neice, Abbey. A delightful child who will one day make a daunting evil genius. She has to be accompanied by the no-less gorgeous Jordan:
her gourmet chef brother. Jordan has a serious appetite for good food, particularly dessert.
We’re entertaining again. ^^ I guess since I’m here, my parents are entertaining anyway. My sister and her two wonderful children are down from QLD for the week. They’re great company. Still, sometimes you need peace and quiet, and so Sax and I took this trip to Brungle, a village 20km from Tumut:
Well, that’s the side of Brungle. I’m not totally convinced I could take a photo from any part of Brungle that would include more than one house. It’s small, very small, and spread out. It’s a dry kind of land, the worn hills more like Gundagai than Tumut, cut off from town by a steep and winding set of mountains. Granite monoliths and boulders pepper the hills, creating rugged paddocks, and the attempts of humans to establish a community here only adds to the plain’s sense of desolation.
Around the river, the cicadas are thick and discordant. The Tumut River flows through here, swollen, blue and green and black and fast. The cows stare balefully from under the deep shade of trees. After leaving the village limits, there are the occasional signs of human habitation…
but Brungle never loses its air of a frontier town, somewhere far removed from the overwrought heartbeat of city life.
And that’s its charm! Just like the charm of pancakes is in the eating. ❤
